Thursday night brought two really good games in the MBA Owl League, and more importantly, it may have finally delivered what this league was designed to create: four teams that can legitimately compete with one another.
Team Link survived a thriller against Pete’s Painting, pulling out a 67-63 overtime victory. Nick Pigeon and Nicholas Wilder led the way with 16 and 14 points, while John Pinkerton also added 14. Pete’s Painting got 23 from Chris Delgiudice and 19 from Adalberto Aguirre, but Team Link ultimately made the plays necessary to escape with the win and improve to 4-1.
The bigger storyline, however, may have come in the second game. Teale Law entered the night at 0-4 and had struggled to find its footing, so a new addition was made with the goal of changing the team’s trajectory. Tonight, that move paid off. Teale Law knocked off a very good APC team, 52-50, earning its first win of the season. Shane Whalen was outstanding with 34 points, while Jr Gonzalez added 15.
APC was led by Billy Farnsworth’s 19 points, with Gee Alexander adding 12. A special shoutout also goes to 56-year-old Billy Farnsworth for continuing to compete at a high level and show that the love for the game has no age limit.
The goal for the Owl League has always been four evenly matched teams, and after tonight, it looks like we may finally have exactly that.
