Week 1 of the MBA Wednesday Power League is in the books, and the early message is clear: this is where some serious basketball is being played. The rosters across all six teams are loaded with high-level players, making this the highest-skilled league at MBA by far. While it’s only one week into the session, the talent and intensity were on full display, and there are six teams that look capable of competing with anyone. If you want to see high-quality men’s basketball, Wednesday nights are the place to be.
Aftermath, the reigning Power League champions, opened the session with a 61-49 win over Let’s Play Collectibles. Captain Matt Ganem has done a great job putting together a talented roster, bringing in Aleksandar Dobrovic, Korran Rivers and Paul Chergey. Dobrovic led all scorers with 33 points, while KO added 14. Let’s Play Collectibles was led by Kuany Teng with 19, with David Smith also adding 19 and Moonyang Teng scoring nine.
Pete’s Painting, last session’s runner-up, also started strong with an 82-72 victory over Teale Law. Adrian Lazo led Pete’s with 27 points, while Rodney Hill and Maddox Hoshigaki each added 18 and Ben Cantrance finished with 17. Gabby Castillo paced Teale Law with 26.
Dempsey Financial Group rounded out the night with a 74-63 win over Cellular Freedom. Robenson Baguidy led Dempsey with 26 points, while Dom Timbas added 17. Cellular Freedom got 24 from Kyle Hoellrich and 22 from James Vailas.
It’s only Week 1, but the Power League has already delivered. There’s a long way to go, and with six teams capable of making noise, Wednesday nights should be a fun one all season.
